My guess is that the "failure" was caused by ppl not joining together and knocking on doors and harassing rapists enough until they leave their privileged position of power. It relied most on individuals pointing at their rapists & hoping it would encourage other victims to do so.

I think "right-wing" Stoicism is an interpretation of it based on their ideology. Just like Stoicism itself, being a philosophy of a Greek and Roman society decline towards patriarchism/authoritarianism, the "control" aspect of their time as interpretation of earlier wisdom and practices.

As an exemple, the community the schools created back then didn't let their followers feel invisible in poverty. And feeling invisible is when one has the least control of mind and body.

What turna Stoicism conservative is the removal of the environment the school created to them and society then.

Anark want teach what emotion, feelings, anger, etc are without knowing himself what they are.

It's only a full working philosophy if one can embrace suicide to preserve their lives when one has no more power of virtue in life.

Removing the suicide from the philosophy one has to have more control of their environments and body, which becomes a privilege of the few.

But one has to have a structured environment.

The brain alone can not have 100% control of our "emoting" (body) because the body has its own independent reaction, emoting to the environment independent of the brain (feeling).

Not all people have control over the environment they live in.

Even Buda had to isolate himself in the mountains to transcend suffering.
