it took sixteen chapters for me to actually write about a swim meet lmao oops
A pool deck on meet day buzzed with life and sound, a hive clad in silicone and Lycra, but once Johnny dove into the water, everyone and everything except his fellow competitors melted into the blue. It wasn't a true silence like The Moment, but there was a type of focus, an alignment of angle and line that shut out the din, leaving only the roaring sear of the engine made of sinew and bone. Every movement and every thought was honed toward reaching the wall on the other side of the pool. It didn't matter when each muscle screamed and burned with pain, even with the previous turnover seeming like the limit, because the only option was to keep going until the end.

While Ghost had been on top of Soap before, he had never sat in his lap and put his full weight on him. "No, ya won't," Soap countered with a wry smile. "You know how much I can hip thrust." That was true. He had seen him at the gym, pointedly thrusting as much as Ghost weighed. "Right, but—" "No buts except yours," Soap quipped as he patted his lap again. "Right here."
