LOL, I always heard it as "old enough to repaint" -- and after a quick google, it looks like I'm not alone. This was more or less my interpretation:
A Reddit comment from avi2bavi saying, "I always misheard these lyrics, and somehow found the meaning clearer for it. I heard 'old enough to repaint...young enough to sell' - and understood the phrase as referring to a house. When you're young, you're free to sell-out and move-on from your commitments, and when you're old you have to work with what you have. So it's hard to make arrangements with yourself at an age when both options seem viable - either you can cut-free of your old life and reinvent yourself, or you can justify settling in your current situation and making more modest modifications. I still like my interpretation."

From a Washington Post article about a U.S. influencer who picked up a baby wombat in Australia: "Wildlife protection laws vary between Australian states, but those found guilty of harming wildlife can face penalties including fines. In New South Wales, for example, it is an offense to harm a wombat without a license."
