@younata 360 video is a pretty good use case for 8K.

Just a tip for anyone with 6K cameras: Don’t upload it (as a 360 video) as a 6K video to YouTube. You need to rescale it (e.g. with Handbrake) to 8K so that YouTube can see the detail. By default, YouTube will just convert it to 4K and then […]

When training for ny instrument rating, I once did a takeoff under foggles with my instructor, just to see what it would actually be like. Yeah, no, it was even scarier than I thought it would be (the instructor agreed with me that he would also never takeoff in 0/0 conditions when flying GA) […]

Yes. This helps maximize glide ratio (reduce sink rate) at higher speeds.

A common takeoff technique for a flapped glider, when using a tow plane launch, is to start the takeoff run with flaps negative. That gives the glider a little better roll authority at low speed. When you get up […]

@KrajciTom ... I gotta take some glider lessons sometime. That's much more complex (and it sounds much more fun) than my take-off procedure, which is just pushing the throttle & mixture full forward, and holding back-elevator pressure to reduce the weight on the nosewheel.

This video shows the flapperons moving as camber-changing flaps. The two control surfaces move in unison. My flap control system has five settings. The central setting is flaps zero or flaps neutral. Two settings increase the camber more, which is suitable […]

@KrajciTom I’ve never seen flaps that move upwards before, that was really odd to me. Is that common in gliders?

@ai6yr oh fun. We stayed at a Sonder last time we visited Seattle. They had a setup right next to Amtrak which we quite liked, and would have stayed at again next time we visit.

That's not to say the Cycle to Work scheme is perfect: it's not. Zero-rating bikes and ebikes would be *much* better because that means the discount is available to everyone, not just full-time workers over the earnings threshold. Also the discount is the same for everyone, not bigger for high […]

@moira Hopefully they get enough messages over the next couple days that they turn from yes to no soon.

I am noticing that we can only replace 2 of the traitorous 8 next year, so it's going to be a long game.

@moira Oh joy! Gonna pay attention to these fucks and make sure I donate to their primary challengers.

At least neither of my senators are voting for this shit. Gonna send them a note thanking them.

@younata I've heard that sometimes the downside of airparks is they are run like HOA's ... and all the politics associated. That said, one time when we were shopping for a house I looked hard at an airpark. The only problem was the cost of the cheapest place was like 2x our limit, and I don't […]

@slothrop “train route” might also be a good idea for the same thing, because trains can reroute in some circumstances, though “train route” can imply a degree of on-rails/lack of fluidity that I’m looking for.
A “shipping line” might also be a good alternative, as that’s literally […]

So, I did this, and I continue to be amazed that no one has called me on my bullshit. And in fact I’ve even gotten support for the idea.

One difference between this time and last time (https://hachyderm.io/@younata/114943498653133751) was that, now that openai has papers admitting that the tech cannot be trusted, I'm much more ok with directly stating "the tech can't even do what we want it to do".

Plus, in general, I'm trying […]
