chainsaw man as a series is very much in conversation with its obvious inspiration devilman, and I feel a lot of part two's narrative makes more sense when you look at it in that light

I think Thenardier is one of my favourite parts of Les Miserables. In a book centred aroundthe social injustices created by poverty it's so good to have a character whose suffering just makes them *worse*, who never learns anything, and who gets away with it completely

finished a reread of the first three horus heresy books and they're interesting in how the 30k Imperium is presented as inherently flawed all along - fratboy Astartes, absent emperor and hypocritical mission - in a way that almost does the mythical "satire" that 40k usually isnt

thinking about how machu and nyaan teaming up doing clan battle-style tactics to beat the rx-78-2 would have been a genuinely good emotional payoff at least. and the show cannot stick to it because basically it is not interested in giving these characters emotional payoff

GQuuuuuuX is a show about yearning because itself it is about nothing. the action is boring. the plot is a self-contained psychodrama in which no one suffers. the world is empty outside of its core cast and its references. a work of art that does not exist. Bad

after reading tomino's comments about "wartime experience" i got to Sayla's Agony, where white base needs salt. this escalates into the gundam getting its first battle damage and Zeon retreating because of one combat casuality. great example of how relatively grounded 0079 can be

i just feel so sorry for this guy. khara just does not know how to make robots interesting or care much about them and i think that was kind of noticable in rebuild but here the gquuuuuux is just this cluttered-looking toy that never gets any personality or even any good fights

GQuuuuuuX is just mediocre in isolation. its fawning, unearned borrowing from UC gundam is what makes it outright insulting. unfortunately the show has just done that more and more as its gone on and the end of this ep was the new peak (derogatory). absolutely godawful

also all the action has been very bad. none of these plastic toys have any weight or response to anything and i dont even really understand why or how this would be a move in your climactic friends-to-rivals mobile suit battle, let alone the decisive one?

comical how little interest this show has in its own protagonists. their reunion and mobile suit fight takes up less than five minutes. machu does one rebuild of evangelion thing and goes right back to following a 0079 character around watching rebuild of evangelion things happen
