A recent rhubarb soufflé I devoured. Tall, trembling, and just beginning to crack at the top. A scoop of vanilla-scented custard ice cream offered a delicious contrast to the hot pudding. And for extra oomph - a coulis, electric pink and sherbet-sour that flickered across the tongue like static.

Nothing beats salted caramel cheesecake brownies on a random Tuesday. What's excess anyway?

Asparagus spears, wrapped in prosciutto, then roasted in a devilishly hot oven until the gloriously green spears soften and the Italian ham crisps up. Served with a terrifically fresh mint dressing, sour with lemon and heady with herbs that cut through the fattiness of the proshoot perfectly. #food

A rhubarb and apple crumble for golden hour. All is well in the world for a brief moment, especially when smothered in custard.

Not many sights are greater than the proud stance of a semla, ornately decorated and topped with a featherweight dusting of icing sugar snow. There is the open-textured, adroitly sweetened dough, the mouthwateringly nutty filling, and the perfectly piped cream, delicately spiced with cardamom. #food

ORANGE-POACHED RHUBARB & GINGER CREAM

My rhubarb obsession shows no sign of abating - the season for the pretty pink stalks is fleeting, after all - so, with my latest clutch, I thought I’d experiment with the vegetable’s natural bedfellow, ginger.

This was the best negroni I've had in a long time. Boozy, herbaceous, and cleverly made to have a level of forward bitterness I think is integral to an aperitif. That said, a campari gomme rounded out any rough edges, creating a cocktail with a silky, luxurious mouthfeel.

Today's breakfast: an almond croissant, with superior lamination, a great deal of buttery charm, and a generous frangipane filling. The weekend starts here.

Not the most appealing photo I have ever taken, but I must introduce you to a snack I ate last night: crispy sprouts slicked in hot honey, balsamic and topped with a copious amount of cheese. A must-make for any leftover Brussels lying in the bottom of your fridge right now, I should wager.

Forgotten cookies, replete with chocolate, almonds, and heady with the aroma of ground cardamom. Left to dry out in the oven overnight until they are crisp and delectably chewy. Something a little different to offer alongside the requisite mince pies.

There's something so glitteringly celebratory about a soufflé. The delicate texture, the majesterial height, the proneness to collapse if not eaten immediately with reckless abandon.

It radiates glamour, almost alive with vitality. The edible equivalent of a sequin dress.

Bliss in the form of a Bailey's pain suisse. I'm a sucker for a pastry when the lamination is done as expertly as it is here. Hundreds of layers of flaky dough, and a pastry cream spiked with just enough Irish cream to remind you it's nearly Xmas. Sweet, but not too sweet. Perfection.

Would highly recommend this wonder of a book for the foodie/political nerd in your life this Christmas. Insightful, amusing, and just what we need right now - a reminder that food is inherently political. It may an overused maxim, but 'you are what you eat' has never felt more prescient. #food #book

The zenith of winter’s culinary prowess: the downy-skinned, mellifluous quince. Not a fruit for the impatient - raw, it is impenetrable and highly acidic - but deep pleasure is guaranteed for those who persevere and lean into its idiosyncratic toughness through slow cooking.

A quintet of colourful macarons to assuage my seasonal sludge as the intense vibrancy of autumn makes way for the bare-boughed sludge of winter.

The central morsel - a passionfruit and milk chocolate sort no less - was a favourite.

Pictured here is an egg, cheese and leek brioche I devoured for my lunch the other day at a local bakehouse/deli.

A wonderful reminder of joyful simplicity - the power of a golden, jammy yolk is not to be messed with. Revivifying on a gloomy day.

Hello Bluesky!

A drink to begin I think...

Said libation is a “Christmas Pudding and Custard” from the Grand Hotel in York. Sweet and silky with advocaat, and rich with the sticky, fruity resonance of Pedro Ximinez. Evocative, balanced, and just the ticket for warming up on a cold evening.
