Yesterday was the 57th anniversary of the My Lai massacre.

I don't think there has been a time where Hugh Thompson Jnr's behaviour, and his actions that day, have been more relevant to US history than they are right now.
On 16th March, 1968 Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson Jnr was flying helicopter recon for a US attack on My Lai, an alleged Viet Cong-controlled village in Vietnam.

But as the attack developed below, Thompson realised he was witnessing something something else:

A massacre.

He decided to act. 1/28

“Despite judge’s order” is the line. There are no other boundaries to cross. This is the difference between a republic and a dictatorship in a single phrase and they walked over it not just knowingly, but eagerly.

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.”
Absurd we still need to go through this

Anyone in these areas looking for a maths teacher?
Would love to apply but slightly out of range! I am intending to relocate to Hitchin/Stevenage, if you have any recommendations for schools in that area?

Nothing frustrates me more than sitting through pointless whole school coaching. Today I was shown how to collect books in and let me class out in an orderly manner. Don’t get me wrong - ECTs need this… but after 29 years I think I’ve got that routine down.

Been on a bit of a genealogy trip recently. Found old photos on my dad’s computer. Turns out the oldest one is from 1860, - the grandmother of my great grandmother… and we have a family tree back to 1694 in that line 🤓 French Huguenot ancestry
