Although we cannot be sure, we do not think it is the same location. It appears to be closer to the corner with Monkgate and would have possibly been next to St Maurice’s Church. However, quite a few of the buildings in the area were demolished, including the church, in the mid to late 20thC.

His father, Edward, was a lawyer in York Minster offices and his mother was described as 'illiterate and perhaps a little flighty'. The family was well-known in the city with ancestors who had been Sheriffs and Lord Mayors. They lived with Guy's grandmother, Ellen Fawkes

They took over management of the factory in Fishergate, a site which had been producing glass since the late 18th C., until its closure in the 1980’s.

We have a selection of designs for some ‘fancy jam jars’ from our records of Redfearns National Glass Company. In September 1967, Redfearn Brothers Limited of Barnsley merged with National Glass Works (York) Ltd.

De Bourg was a magician and wanted to establish a magic society in York to meet likeminded people. De Bourg invited other amateur magicians to Mansion House, where the inaugural meeting of the Society was held on 8th March 1945. At that first meeting the York Society of Magicians was established.
