At the end of the day the reason we shouldn’t be kidnapping immigrants off the street is because they are people, not because they are laborers.

I think that an immigrant who isn’t willing to work the hardest jobs, or maybe can’t due to disability or age or whatever is still valuable and worth protecting.

Like, that their value to the nation is solely in their willingness to labor longer hours, work harder jobs, and to break their bodies more than people who were born here are willing.

This isn’t to say that someone who’s gotten really good at roofing shouldn’t be proud of that, but

They’d see me and assume my Dad was probably one of the Hispanic contractors who had redone their patio.

It’s “nice” to say that they’re hard workers, like, it’s a positive thing to say, but I feel like it holds a nastier implication about the place that immigrants “belong” in society
