Fun album but if it was a contest, Jimmy completely annihilates Wes throughout.

This was my Bible growing up. I remember being a bit disappointed that the cover teased material that wasn’t in the book, but I otherwise studied it like a sacred text. Fun fact: the Catch-22 parody is missing the last page. I guess they did that so the page count evened out??

Good point about Shorter. You could take all his compositions from the Blakey albums as-is and authentically repackage them as a Wayne Shorter album.

Interesting that Horace recorded songs written by Joe when he was in the band. Trying hard to think of another then-current sideman who got writing credits on a Horace freaking Silver album.

And he likes to warm it up on the stove, not the microwave. It takes a little longer but the guy who passed out will appreciate the extra effort.

8 for me. Herbie Hancock well represented on this list (playing on his own album of course, but also with Miles and all but one of the Wes albums, plus composing the title track of the Ramsey Lewis album).

I would totally take part in a high stakes reality show where Señor Poole has to teach his former students, now adults, something beyond “Tengo usar el baño” or something bad happens (to him? To us? Both??).
