This is exactly the kind of friction we need to eliminate from the EV charging experience. As long as things like this happen, we’ll keep hearing skeptics say EVs are too complicated. It’s on the whole ecosystem—charger manufacturers, automakers, charging network operators—to make this seamless.

So, I restarted a charging session, stopped it from the car, immediately pressed the little button… and voilà, it worked.

Back to the hotel reception, which was packed with guests checking out. After waiting, a receptionist accompanied me to the parking lot and shared a tip for this particular charging station: press a tiny button in the middle of the charger. Sometimes, it releases the cable.

Not this time.
