They could be sociopaths who don't care. Or they are so repressed that anger and defiance is all they have, and they'll cling in the belief of their righteousness without a second thought. I kind of believe it's the latter.

I see the footage of them looking defiant in face of protestors and hope that's a mask. That there's a human being underneath that feels the energy aimed against them.
