Dunbar Seascape. The town of Dunbar is located 30 miles east of Edinburgh on Scotland's North Sea coast. It is built on a coastal headland or promontory with a complicated geology. Small volcanic necks, igneous dykes and beds of volcanic tuff (now cut into cliffs by wave action) cut through sedimentary deposits that become more obvious to the east and west of the town. All these rocks are more than 300 million years old. The distant island is known as the Bass Rock. It is a volcanic plug of phonolitic trachyte rock of Carboniferous (Dinantian) age. The island is host to a large colony of the Northern Gannett (Morus bassanus).

Signage on the medievil buildings of Castlehill, Edinburgh, Scotland. This highly touristic area lies between the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. The name Castlehill is recorded in text as early as 1484 and is one of the oldest settlements in the city. It forms the summit of the Royal Mile. It was once separated from the Castle by a deep ravine, which was later bridged by the Esplanade in 1753. Now a restaurant and hotel, The Witchery's name and atmosphere are a tribute to the many witches who were executed on Castlehill, particularly during the reign of James VI. Built in 1595, the building is a substantial part of the 16th-century Boswell's Court. It was originally built for the merchant Thomas Lowthian, whose initials and motto can be found on the original doorway. The area is named Boswell's Court, after James Boswell, the uncle of Dr. Johnson's biographer, who was a resident there. The building containing The Scotch Whisky Experience was once Castlehill School. Built on the site of Brown's Court, it opened in 1888 with up to 800 pupils in its heyday. After WWII, pupil numbers dropped and it closed in 1951. The building is now better known for the world's largest collection of Scotch Whisky - former classrooms have been transformed into a cosy restaurant and bar areas.

A busy street scene in greyscale with selective colour. Red police box in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, Scotland. Police boxes were usually blue, with the most notable exception being Glasgow, where they were red until the late 1960s. Most have now been painted blue to align with the colour scheme used in the rest of the UK. Some surviving red police boxes have been repurposed as coffee kiosks and other small retail units. In addition to a telephone, they contained equipment such as an incident book, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit.

The Union Canal, known as the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union Canal, is a canal in Scotland, running from Falkirk to Edinburgh, constructed to bring minerals, especially coal, to the capital. It was opened in 1822. It was reconnected to the Forth and Clyde Canal in 2002 by the Falkirk Wheel. It is now used for leisure purposes and provides a wonderful haven for wildlife.

Cramond is a village and suburb in the north-west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It stands at the mouth of the River Almond, where it enters the Firth of Forth. The area has a long history, with evidence of Mesolithic, Bronze Age and Roman activity. The older houses along the wharf are typical of traditional south-east Scottish vernacular architecture, constructed in stone with harling white lime render finish, facing stone windows and door surrounds. The image is an idyllic Summer scene with blue skies, opposite the wharf and shows people dining outside the village inn. The area is decorated with floral hanging baskets and planters. The houses and Inn are white washed with black painted doors and window surrounds.

Budding Delphinium - A single stem of Delphinium in bud, depicted in a soft painterly style and displayed diagonally across a vertical canvas. Green foliage and buds tinged with mauve, stand out against a neutral background of warm grey and sand. Delphiniums are in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) and have been grown in the UK for centuries. The name delphinium originates from the ancient Greek word 'delphis', meaning dolphin. Elegant and stately, they add architectural height to garden borders. Flowering occurs in mid-summer. All members of the genus Delphinium are toxic to humans and animals.

Icehouse - Riccarton Estate, Edinburgh, Scotland. The early 18th century icehouse is a circular domed subterranean structure constructed of sandstone rubble masonry, with a north facing façade that contains the Icehouse entrance. It is one of the few surviving garden structures associated with the original Riccarton House. As the name suggests, the building stored ice taken from the loch in Winter, which was then used to help preserve food for use in the house well into the Summer months.

Located at the heart of Edinburgh City, within the beautiful setting of Princes Street Gardens, is the Ross Fountain. Sculpted by artist Jean-Baptiste Jules Klagmann and produced at the world-famous iron foundry of Antoine Durenne in Sommevoire, France. The cast-iron fountain includes cherubs, mermaids, walrus, lion heads and four female figures representing science, arts, poetry and industry. The fountain is a magnificent example of 19th century cast-iron work, in the neoclassical style commonly known as Beaux Arts. Local gun maker, Daniel Ross, saw the fountain in London at the Great Exhibition of 1862 and gifted it to Edinburgh.

An atmospheric greyscale image of the entrance to Lady Stair’s House, which lies just off the Lawnmarket in Edinburgh's Old Town. The house was built in 1622 by Sir William Gray of Pittendrum, a very successful city merchant. The initials of Gray and his wife Geida Smith are carved into the lintel above the doorway. At that time, it was common for the wealthy to live tucked away down one of the hundreds of narrow passageways known as closes, away from the bustle and noise of the main street. Sir William Gray’s fortunes turned dramatically during the Civil War in the 1640s. He was fined and later imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle for his connections with royalists. Then, in 1645, his daughter died of the plague. Sir William himself died in 1648, but his wife continued to live there for many years. The close leading to the house became known as Lady Gray’s Close in her honour. It kept that name until around 1719 when Elizabeth, Dowager Countess of Stair, bought the building. The close and house then took on her name. Today, Lady Stair’s House is home to the Writers’ Museum, with displays celebrating authors such as Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns and Robert Louis Stevenson.

It has a medium tall un-branched stem, topped by a solitary composite flower of white rays (petals) surrounding a yellow disc floret. The basal leaves of Ox-eye daisy are quite distinctive with their toothed spoon-shape and long leaf stalks. Flowering takes place from May to September. The open flower heads of Ox-eye daisy attract a large range of pollinating insects, particularly bees, butterflies and hoverflies.

Plants are easy to grow and may be climbing, cascading,or bushy.

Rowan Berries -
Rowans are mostly small deciduous trees 10–20m tall, though a few are shrubs.
The fruit of the Rowan are soft and juicy, which makes them a very good food for birds, particularly waxwings and thrushes.
