How do you make feedback human?

Best decision I’ve made in years: speaking, rather than writing, feedback as often as possible

Let Ss hear your encouragement, let Ss hear you say their name, let Ss hear how proud you are

I use Mote, but it could be any number of things 🎤📝

My aunt died in 2017. She didn’t have girls, so she always bought me pretty things. Usually it was sweaters. This year, her youngest son, my cousin Edward, came to visit for Xmas with his family. I knew just by squeezing the box (a thing I do, shut up) that it was a sweater.

Today in my brain: why did we decide that dragons lay eggs? I know, the whole reptile thing, but it’s so pedestrian (plus they’re fantasy creatures so are they actually reptiles?) I feel like live birth is much more fitting for dragons. Thoughts?

GM BlueSky. I have smthg terrible to admit. I, a die-hard Muppets fan, an owner of The Muppet Show DVDs and VHS tapes, have never, ever seen The Muppet Christmas Carol.
That changes next week. I am blocking out a night to watch it and nothing will get in my way.

Gm BlueSky, how are you today? Over here: chat with a friend on how to maintain our creative lives amidst family drama and work; then a bunch of meetings until 7p. Har, har, har, I know.

Um. The NYT mini-crossword today taught me that rhinos are herbivores. I had no idea. I always thought they were indiscriminate eaters.

Today’s #nytstrands puzzle was a doozy for me. It made me fully aware of how long it’s been since our Taiwanese-American family has celebrated with a “traditional” Thanksgiving feast. On our table: Taiwanese hotpot; sushi, roasted cauliflower. Candied cranberries this year! That counts right?!

Gm BlueSky. How are we today? Over here: hot planning mess; tables jammed together, three different sets of plates, somehow never ever achieving boho chic.

Also, when I bring my dog to a coffee shop, I leave them outside while I get my order. Are dogs allowed in coffee shops now?
Related: I am too cranky to be any good.

This is a great read, and timely: I just signed up for a Braver Angels workshop yesterday. Some gems: "Be more curious than furious" and "Facts have no feelings. They're easy to dismiss."

How to Talk to Family Members about Politics

This methodology from Braver Angels eases the work of bringing family conservatives over the line to vote for policies, rather than focus on the parasocial relationship with politicians.

I got the nicest note with my shipment from the good folks at Zefiro, a sustainable-goods #smallbusiness based out of Chicago. I know they do this for everyone. But it’s been a rough morning and this tiny piece of #gratitude is lifting.
