I think the situation with Whedon was less about committing any crimes and more about him being a turd to everyone he worked with.

It's a bit like J.K. Rowling, nothing illegal, just a complete lack of compassion for your fellow man.

If you don't care about that sort of thing, that's your right.

I agree in some sense, though I as a writer would rather have to go on social media and say "well we didn't know at the time" than not utilize those considered contemporary luminaries to add to a story's relatability.
