I'm starting work on Absolute Zero, an action series set in the Canadian Arctic. It was originally going to be a Visual Novel but I got way more into drawing artwork than I expected.

Like the "objectively best" shows are the ones that appeal directly to the reviewers. It's very disheartening to think about as an aspiring writer. And I try not to let these thoughts get to me, but there's been a lot more people gushing about the show the last few days. No idea why.

Yes, this is about exactly the show you think it is.

I don't think I've come across a single review of Madoka that contains any unironic criticism. Maybe one blog post, and half the comments were stuff like "For the love of God, never get into media analysis." It just feels like heavy bias to me.

This should make it slightly more obvious. I need to figure out why this drawing of Yukiko looks like that girl from Digimon Time Stranger.

You're right about the electronics. This would have been 2008 or so.

Love when my feed lines up like this.

Every type of fantasy contains dark elements. Every type of shonen contains horror. Every type of magical girl show contains tragedy.

You can prefer shows that contain more of these things, but you lose my sympathy when you treat dark fantasy as being superior to everything else.

Based on what I've heard over the last day or so, I'd like to edit my previous statement.

Replace "genre deconstruction" with "dark fantasy". Everything else stays the same.

Because most of those stories are about loneliness and isolation. Mine is kinda about that too, but from the perspective of an actual Northerner.

It's funny you bring that up, because I was watching a video about a different Arctic horror story called That Which Gave Chase and I realized what the first lines of me comic story need to be.

"The Arctic.

Some call it the loneliest place on Earth.

Population: 133,672."

I think you misunderstood my question. I can't come up with anything that offers a shred of genuine criticism, and that essay you linked was no exception.
