that said, the metric where it excels is energy produced per unit fuel, not per volume
fusion reactors are also significantly more complicated than every other power source we have and require more power to run, so... not necessarily the most practical or efficient power source available.

every fusion reactor I'm aware of uses deuterium-tritium fusion, which is more energetic by a couple orders of magnitude and at feasible temperatures and pressures

I'm pretty sure most people would prefer reform, so watching someone actually try and eventually fail is probably necessary for many of us to realize there's really only one way out

The worst part is that i really like other M as a game too. the gameplay really does sell the feeling of samus as an unstoppable weapon of mass destruction, and on replays them authorizing powerups vs finding them really does sell how dangerous she is and how the fed sees her as a weapon to control

but fusion (and dread, to a lesser extent) makes it clear that she just respects adam and seems to think of him as "one of the good ones" in the federation, so none of that works if we see him and he sucks shit

i dunno, the "weird condescending father figure/implied love interest treating her like a weapon to be used, that does a noble sacrifice to save her" could work as a setup for some really complex feelings toward adam (and the federation as a whole)...

swap the setting to the mission where samus leaves the federation? now its about her becoming the character we know, and it's neat.
but Post-super samus struggling with ideas of motherhood being given orders by the federation whose incompetence killed her baby? How is she not on a warpath?

that said, the balance in samus seems to be at its best when she's portrayed as a walking calamity 99% of the time with just a single, strategically placed moment of real humanity, so idk maybe stone cold sociopath isn't that far off
