Brenda Rosen of NASW testifies next. "There is no evidence-based, research based talk therapy that can change a person's sexual or gender identity."

You thought wrong. It doesn't change the exploitive nature of prison labor, firefighting included.

I'm talking about the statements you've made in this thread to justify your stance. They're morally and structurally flawed. You also implied that I'm anti-incarceration. I'm fully aware what the "original issue" is, but I'm not sure you do.

It would only be non-exploitive if the inmates had nothing to gain from the "volunteer" work, or if they were compensated fairly for their labor. People will do anything to ease their misery while incarcerated and the system knows that.

Jobs where you work for a pay no free person would be expected to accept (literal coins) and in often dangerous conditions, just so you can turn around & use the entire day's earnings to buy lotion, a candy bar, & a 20-minute video call with your family is exploitation. It preys on desperation.

You need them if you think me saying that the ownership of a person by another is a social construct somehow translates to me not believing in imprisonment for a crime. Abolition is another discussion entirely.
January 12, 2025 at 10:31 PM
My mistake. I was confusing you with someone else in this discussion who is a lawyer. Anyway, my point still stands.

Are you illiterate? Do I need to use crayons next time?

I'll say it again. Functionally, this is slavery.

How are you a lawyer and have this piss poor of an understanding of bondage, access to resources, and informed consent?
January 12, 2025 at 9:36 PM
Ownership of another human being is a horrendous social construct and using it as a measure for your argument reflects negatively on whatever moral compass you claim to have.
January 12, 2025 at 9:32 PM
A job description doesn't change the fact that they are humans kept in bondage working for pennies. Functionally, this is slavery.
January 12, 2025 at 9:24 PM
It literally says that slavery is fine if it's punishment for a crime. How are you still willing to die on this hill?

If all of us did "the small things", corporations would still do the "big things". They don't care about the environment and they don't care what we do, as long as their pockets are padded.
