yeah it makes me sad for artists who sell out in that manner - struggle to make something brilliant and then attempt to recapture the magic in a different context

tho im considering cultivating a little respect for artists cashing in on some success to snag a contract... its not easy! get real paid

it doesnt feel good to say but i do agree. i dont stress abt it personally as an artist tho - i hope everybodyss having fun!!!

yeah i always tend to favor the rougher/(often) earlier recordings of bands, my own rationalization being that the more unique elements of their artistry are more forward and evident. neat when they hit that in later albums. id die for early Mountain Goats... havent listened to the past 4 albums yet

the lo fi angle is definitely a factor ; it was hard for high school age me to feel _as_ glum/depressed listening to a fully produced album, i definitely resented his artistry maturing. im feeling prepared to mature on into it tho

omg i literally just downloaded 'from a basement on the hill' to listen thru for the first time this morning
