One of the annoyances of living in CA is seeing an impeach newsom bumpersticker because yes please but also it's probably there for right-wing reactionary BS reasons so my brain just flounders about trying to find the right emotion to feel about it :P

I think some of that belief can be chalked up to a sort of cultural lag. There was a point where it was reasonable to expect putting in extra work and overtime could actually pay off in significant ways, but that's not been true in most cases for a LONG time but the mythology remains.
