Please do I would absolutely love that, I feel not quite qualified to talk about Dismas because I do be kinda emotionally stunted in terms of guilt and empathy, as a result I gravitate towards writing for the emotionally stunted characters and then just lurk and enjoy the good stuff for the others.

I can't wax as much poetics about Dismas but I'm very fascinated with how much guiltier he seems to feel compared to many of the other characters. I think that's a very beautiful thing to see in the world of DD, as many seem to have some regrets but not so many seem to feel guilty for their actions.

It is both a prison of treating himself as a tool of the Light, and a delusional power trip of being able to choose for himself, because technically he chose to be a crusader instead of a husband and a father even when he could have returned.

I think that's part of why he clings to this identity as a crusader, because he now answers to the Light, not to the church, not to the father, and he can both reason his need for purpose and reason with his guilt for rejecting the initial purpose he was given as a man with a traditional family.

The crusade made him follow a path of bloodshed, a purpose in life given to him by the Light, and that further feeds his delusions that he NEEDS to be what the religion wants from him. But also he got an escape from the life he had, he got an escape from servitude even, by climbing the ranks.

Judging from his barks religion fucked him up really hard until he learned to be a follower, learn his psalms and his role in life even if it wasn't per say what he wanted. And the crusade was both an extension of that and an escape of that for him.

My DD rants on Tumblr usually do with Sarmenti but I actually really love Reynaud because of his complexity as the less guilty in the heart, but more criminal in actions compared to Dismas. He is so justified by religion in his crimes, that he has detached himself from the human part of facing them.
