Gotta say the Pialat takes the cake for me. Where do you stand with Chang Cheh? FIVE SHAOLIN MASTERS would definitely be in my top 5 of that year.

The whole gang definitely evolve in ways that don't feel in-line with what American tv usually allows. The Willow episode where she kisses a new girl and suddenly becomes the misogynistic man who killed her ex girlfriend stressed me the fuck out. The symbols get *really* overloaded in this season.

No wonder peter pan syndrome losers hate this season and want the characters to be quippy high schoolers for all eternity. I'm sorry but being mature involves being in a constant battle with mortality. I loved watching the show slowly heading into that direction.

The sincere shift towards sympathy near the end is so bold and lands perfectly. Digital has scarcely felt more natural than it does here. For all the talk about eeriness people like to associate with KK, it’s sad his (highly successful) spiritual pursuits are systematically glossed over.

$1500 for a single autumn afternoon? You can have three months of these free of charge every year!

What do the percentages reflect? The amount of Tilda Swinton inside the movie?

Japan has so much good going for it but every time i see a vlog it’s fawning over the most idiotic, juvenile Elon Musk ass idea of the future which is so obviously a way to skirt around paying for labor so I have to laugh!

Recent one I watched was a robot arm taking orders of soft serve ice cream, literally just places the cone under the machine, and it still messed up and splashed it all over. Presented the cone to the customer with vanilla dripping down its elbow. Gross. Taking a year off, Japan now lives in 2049.

This and its sister fairytale adaptation are the two Breillats that stuck with me the most. I’ve been meaning to revisit both myself too!

The House of Mirth and Terence Davies’ adaptation.

I use the apple tv cube thing, it has all the apps. Have had it for multiple years, it’s so good tbh. Really cut down on me having to do things through my laptop (especially since i learned how to use plex). If found on sale i recommend it!

Tidal is noticeably superior in sound quality. Good for tv play too as it has videos and actually well-curated playlists that don’t feel as algorithmic. Also has most artists who refuse to be on Spotify (Joanna Newsom, Joni Mitchell, etc.) who make the bulk of what I listen to anyway.

As in the tearing down of buildings or replacing them in INHERENT VICE? Or more like THREE TIMES by Hou? If it’s the former then Jia Zhangke does it a lot. Also pick a Hansen-Love, Davies, or Rivette and you’re likely to find that too. Maybe even BONJOUR TRISTESSE counts.

Great scene! So dark I had no clue what was going on, and it became even more difficult to distinguish the two masked riders apart lmao

Kind of funny how film twitter attempted to rehabilitate his image as “the last Insane Imaginary” and how short-lived that was. Sometimes a big imaginary is just an okayish statistics bro who follows too many “@ ScienceIsAmazing” accounts. I’ll take him any day of the week over, say, Lanthimos tho..
