I am always skeptical of this idea that democracy is rooted in universal values, a view not supported by the recent presidential elections in this country. In my 2023 book I cited the 2020 election that so many Americans voted for a transparent autocrat. This is even more true of the 2024 election.

Announcing the arrival of the paperback edition of my book. When I wrote this book, I wanted to reach an audience beyond academia (but without compromising the usual academic standard). I think I succeeded, at least to some extent, as evidenced by the commentaries on the back cover of the book.

The progressives should celebrate what is in their label: a culture of progress, rather than a culture of identity. Tolerance and diversity are associated with progress but tolerance and diversity can be a result of progress. Or they contribute to progress organically, not through a forced process.
