coming from Turkey, where there’s even a saying like ‘the border is honor,’ this town was honestly refreshing to see. as a practical person it’s a nightmare, but it’s so quirky I love it 😅

a building is considered to be in a country based on where its front door is. if the door is in NL, then the house is in NL, even if most of it sits on Belgian land. there was this one apartment building with two doors opening into the same hallway, with the border running right between them

this town is insane, every bus stop has 2 different stops (one for NL one for BE), post boxes have 2 different slots, and some cafes and shops are literally in 2 different countries… we met a local guy who told us during covid the Zeeman store was half closed due to different rules in each country 😅
