I’d be grateful for the missing nerdy details. There have been surprising RCV results in the past: Peltola’s win was not guaranteed after the first round even though she was clearly ahead, by assuming that R voters would always prefer a R candidate over a D. This was not true: clear Peltola win.

Right. So, Cuomo conceding doesn’t mean much, does it? It doesn’t mean that Mamdani has won yet nor does it guarantee that Cuomo has in fact lost. That’s why I don’t understand the assertion of a win.

Is that how it works with RCV? Do we have information on ranking preferences beyond choice #1?

Why did you write that the mayoral primary was won? Can’t we count the votes and go over as many rounds as necessary until someone reaches 50%? At least clarify that it’s a projection based on estimates of ranking choices.
