Well, that's what "build your kingdom" meant back then. There wasn't a lot of unoccupied land in that neck of the woods.

Imma tell my friends to start feeding ChatGPT poetic queries. Start with "how do I love thee? let me count the ways"/shall I compare thee to a summers day?"/"some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice"/ and those riddles that Bilbo and Gollum ask each other in the cave.

Drive it mad.

Painfully ironic that he's saying this on the day of Cheney's funeral.

Is he assuming we can invade Venezuela, China will continue to buy their oil, and we'll keep the money?

Because we probably can't refine their grade of oil anymore after years of sanctions.

That had to have been a Freudian slip.

Either that or she doesn't know what the phrase implies.

True. No Chinese toddler has ever experienced the glorious Murican freedom of accidentally shooting a sibling with Daddy's loaded .45 that he left on the coffee table.

Watching a baby monitor is intimate?

Isn't the point of a monitor that you're not in the room when you're watching it?

Or does she hold her baby and stare adoringly at herself in the monitor screen?

Does it seem as though FBI and DCAO are feuding?

Karen Armstrong is good on this for us non-experts. To oversimplify, early Jewish monotheism wasn't theological revelation; it was a quid pro quo. "Worship only me and I will smite your enemies." God makes it clear that he's a god of war. Of course Judaism became far more nuanced over time.

Sounds like Somalia. Or Cambodia.

No surprise, really.

Where's the satire? Seems factual.
November 21, 2025 at 8:23 AM
You could say the same of Iraq. In fact we did say that. Our troops would be greeted with flowers.

Funny how it turned out not to be true, even though Saddam was far more brutal than Maduro. People resist foreign invaders. Or the worst of them use the chaos to fight to take over the rest.
November 21, 2025 at 8:21 AM
Boy, I can't remember the last time that was true.

The Monroe Doctrine was established in 1823. That's when we first declared ourselves in charge of a bunch of other nonconsenting peoples. We even fought the Revolution in part for the right to violently seize land from native Americans.

Yes, and not in Scotland either.
November 21, 2025 at 8:14 AM
Ironic that on the day of Cheney's funeral the President is planning on re-enacting Cheney's war crime, complete with the blatant lying to justify it.

Fentanyl is the new yellow uranium.

That's because capital gains are taxed at a maximum of 15%. That is far below the historical norm. We should tax capital gains at the same rate as dividends. That would also discourage companies from mass firings and asset looting to juice their stock price instead of paying dividends.
November 21, 2025 at 8:09 AM
Gosh, I wonder what happened in 1980 that started the unequal gains.

It's grossly overvalued. And most of the shareholders seem to be in a cult.

Sell now and buy popcorn, I'd say.

Just remember you know more about the topic than they do. Always helped me.

Would it be rude to point out that Harvard has no undergrad journalism major?

And maybe that's why these undergrads are better than WaPo at this? Because they are having to acquire actual bodies of knowledge when they're not reporting?

Back when I lived in Communist Poland they were careful to teach students that millions of "Poles" (not otherwise described) died in Auschwitz etc. But Poles sure didnt think of the Jewish population as fellow Poles at the time. The whole point was to conceal the reality of what happened.

@yvanspijk.bsky.social interesting thread

So this is going to create jobs for Americans how exactly?

Every country that has experimented with "enterprise zone" crap where they loosen regs and give special tax and work permit favors has found that the profits go straight back out of the country.
November 20, 2025 at 11:14 AM
That is EXACTLY what I just thought seeing it.

My unfounded theory is that Mar A Lago is selling rich idiots fake selfies with Trump. That way they don;t get close enough to find out how senile he is, and also pick up some cash. Same way they have velvet ropes around his table.

Having to research where to buy zip ties suggests a certain lack of integration into normal life.
