There has naturally grown new demographics that differ in how they interact with online resources or communities over the years, and there being extremely different people in terms of views and ideas within a specific hobby has somehow become an alien idea despite the widespread use of the internet.

And the latter isn't as accurate as it was back then. We've heard, know people, or even ourselves have met others online who'd later become their romantic partners.
There're whole other gens who grew up in a time this had become way more common and didn't have a much older generation anchoring them.

As much as we didn't want to admit to it 15 to 25 years ago, having our (collective) parents repeatedly tell us the internet
a) wasn't a safe place to freely tell random details of our lives
Or b) the groups we immersed ourselves into weren't (what they called) normal people.
