In the Phoenix area, there's a pizza place with a huge theater organ. They claim that it's "the largest theater pipe organ ever created." It's worth checking out if you're ever in the area. organstoppizza.com

7: Given my background & current career, which started at Indiana University in 2002, and with a wife who has a degree from one of the IU programs that is being cut/merged, and with a bright kid who will be a high school senior in a few weeks, this particular story hits rather close to home.

6: I have many excellent colleagues with a more technical background, but I’ve always felt that I bring a slightly different, and perhaps more user-centered / humanistic perspective to the problems we are trying to solve together.

5: While I don’t use linguistic analysis in my day-to-day work, the approach to thinking and problem-solving from that program shapes and informs everything I do.

4: I have spent the past 20+ years doing IT work at 20+ large (mostly) public universities coast to coast. As someone who graduated from a small linguistics program (6 students), I see the value in smaller "humanities" programs that these politicians are obviously missing.

3: Obviously, this is terrible for Indiana. I’m afraid it will also serve as a template for other states with similar politics.

2: How much cutting vs merging is anyone's guess. But, it doesn't matter -- whether cut or merged, these programs are clearly being devalued by the state government and their appointees.

The play "English" was quite powerful. I'm not surprised it got nominated. Too bad it didn't win, but it was a strong year for plays on Broadway.

We were in NYC in Jan 2025 & saw some other shows: last year's "best musical" Hell's Kitchen, and English which got a "best play" nomination this year. Maybe Happy Ending was on my radar, but it wasn't quite a hit yet, so lots of tix were available. I still regret that we didn't see it.

Also, domestic producers may see tariffs on foreign goods as an opportunity to raise prices on their (similar) products. It's lose / lose all the way around. And, the "tariff tax" hits lower income people a lot harder, since they spend a much higher percentage of their income on tariffed goods.

It seems that tattoos ought to fall under 1st amendment / freedom of speech. I seriously doubt that merely having a tattoo would be considered evidence of a crime in any court. More evidence would surely be needed?

"Might be" insane? That's putting it pretty mildly.

Actually, it says $3500! Yikes!

"Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said an iPhone would cost $3,500 if produced in the country."
