Yeah, but it's simple. When I first played EDH, you couldn't run Bosh as a commander because color identity wasn't a thing and his own ability disqualified him from being in a colorless deck. And the rule was you couldn't produce mana out of color.

I'm super white and from the US. My kids call my cousins aunt and uncle. They even call close family friends (no relation) aunt and uncle. I don't know anyone that is like "that's my cousin once removed"

I like most kinds of deck building restrictions, so I'd do this for fun. My frustration with UB is less about specific implementations, but rather how it's overhauled everything else in a negative way. This might actually be cathartic in the face of the frustration.
