Pastor Declares Rock 'N' Roll Is Cause of Crime ATLANTIC CITY - AP - A Riverside Calif pastor the Rev. John Loor called rock 'n roll music a modern noise which drives teenagers into an emotional frenzy, produces a hypnotic trance and contributes to juvenile delinquency and crime. The Rev. Loor, pastor of a Seventh-Day Adventist church, urged churchmen, youth leaders, parents and leaders in the entertainment business to curtail music "which incites youth into activities in which they normally would not engage." Loor said "The maddening music of today is contributing to juvenile delinquency and crime, now on the increase in every major city in the United States. "The high pitched noise, the hysterical screaming, the pressing crowds in smoke filled auditoriums during rock 'n roll sessions all help the teenager to be quickly drawn into a hypnotic trance," he said in remarks prepared for the Seventh-day Adventist Youth Congress. --The Sacramento Bee, 24 Apr 1965

Rock 'n Roll Causes Chiropractic Boom LEXINGTON, Ky - A Lexington chiropractor says dancing to rock 'n roll music is causing a mild boom in his field. "This uninhibited dancing without any rules or special steps is bringing a variety of sprains and displacements," Dr. George Cheatham Jr. told the Lexington Chiropractic Assn. It is an "uncalculated risk for even the youngest and most supple citizens," he said. A decrease in ballroom dancing
Margaret Jolts Dance Teachers LONDON (INS) - Princess Margaret's love of rock 'n' roll was blamed Monday for a slump in teaching ballroom dancing. In an article headed "No Bouquets for Margaret", the official organ of the Midland Association of Teachers of Dancing said many teachers had fallen on hard times, with revenue dropping 27 percent compared to 1956. It said that until last year rock 'n' roll was not respectable "but all this suddenly changed when someone discovered that Margaret likes rock 'n' roll and approved of it... from that moment there was no more censure." --The Gazette, 11 Nov 1957

200 chicken deaths
Rock music blamed for chicken deaths ROME - Rock music played by 14 bands at a pop festival was blamed for the deaths of 200 prize hens at a poultry farm near Udine, North Italy. Veterinarians said that 5,000 chicken [sic] became frantic and piled up against the fence. Many were pecked to death or suffocated. Their owner had organized the festival. --News-Pilot, 16 Oct 1972

The National Piano Tuners convention at Kansas City said rock 'n' roll music has brought the first broken bass chord wires -- the big ones down at the business end of the piano -- they've ever seen. Rock & Roll Blamed For Shaky Health ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - "A rock 'n' roll diet is making an under-nourished race out of millions of teen-agers," says the president of the New Jersey Farm Bureau. Herbert W. Voorhees told a Rotary Club meeting that soda pop, "hot dogs and soggy potato chips continue to be the favorite luncheon among millions of high school crowd." Voorhees, a member of President Eisenhower's Citizens Advisory Committee on the Fitness of American Youth added: "It's no wonder we find our boys making poor showing in physical exams for Army service and scores of our teen-age mothers seriously affected with childbirth complication because of malnutrition." --The Alliance Times-Herald, 5 Apr 1958
