it doesn't really need to last long term in my opinion. looking at recent mk without any of the extra content they're still full games that are worth the cost. i usually just end up playing through the games and then waiting for the ultimate version to drop if i feel like revisiting.

i got friends who barely touch the genre but will always wanna try a new mk game because it's got content that's more approachable (maybe not the right word) for someone who's an outsider to the genre

modern mk is probably the fighting game with the most casual appeal besides something like smash bros. people like me who like fighting games but don't have locals near them+bad internet, the amount of 1 player content in the games makes it stand out amongst other games that prioritize online pvp
