Opinions are my own.
But what about "you can throw AI at it and be more productive inventing new things" then?)

Europe needs to stop thinking about itself as "small" and "dependant on help" from anyone. With 450M population and second (joint with China if you want) GDP in the world we can (and should!) decide for ourselves.

- SLAs? 15mins to respond
- how did it change how you planned your life? .. "going black" to the rest of the world. dragging laptop around when going outside.
- what was your wellbeing like? - non-existent
- did the company culture help or hurt your wellbeing? - hurt (promoting "firefighters")

come think of it - biggest part of being on-call is being _prepared_, so it happens outside of actual on-call and is continuous - from attending team/org/conpany ops meetings to hear about last week ops to drills and crafting the ops tools.

I used to work in a place where we _aimed_ at four nines, but never below 99.95.
You need to check-in within 15 minutes of the page no matter what. Resolution time depends on the root cause ofc. We had comprehensive runbooks and tooling for _everything_ ops + regular drills and COEs

Correct me if my math is off, but i $1M/day are divided by US population, it makes $0,003/day/person. 20 billionaires - $0,06/day or $1.75/mo. Can't do much with that can you?
So we need to go higher. Calculate back from UBI. Or child support in DE (€255/mo and growing).
Eat the rich for real)

TBF back in my days AWS was simpler - you had your EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS and SQS.
It bloated tremendously since then towards IAM permissions for viewing account color (someone at AWS got recognition for being customer obsessed and insistimg on higher standards for this one BTW).

First time I regret bluesky does not allow multiple likes because I would've given this over 9000.
The world feels like home at this point. I know every corner of it and still long to go back.

"Nothing can exist unless a test is directly or indirectly using it."

I would argue that "using automated tool for X" is not a skill. X is a skill. In case of refactoring - I dont know any devs that practice it and do not use the automation, except for coding dojos/katas, e.g. to hone the skill )
