I've been obsessively rereading the #tgcf fic "Palm-Sized Love" by Captain_Daikon for weeks, so it was time for fanart. It's based on a scene on chapter 10. I hadn't drawn since my tablet malfunctioned like a year ago, it felt nice to go back to it

Xie Lian is a 25cm long mermaid with a white, tattered tail. He sits on a wood cutting board, leaning on a tiny golden blender and proudly holding a purple sphere with one hand. Ten more of those, each the size of a basketball relative to Xie Lian's size, lie around him. This is a fanart piece based on chapter 10 of the fanfic "Palm-Sized Love" by Captain_Daikon, which is a retelling of the novel "Transmigrated Into the Violent Boss’s Little Mermaid" by 弦三千 with the characters of Heaven Official's Blessing by MXTX.

Another fic that's back in motion after more than a year of hiatus is Within Reach, my canon divergence that shows what happened (or could've happened) in the 10 days it took #Hualian to reach Mt. Tonglu after talking to Jun Wu.

It says: After some back and forth, uncle Ming agreed to put Xie Lian in dough kneading duty, always that he didn't have a hand in the mix. Hua Cheng was tasked with shaping the dough into sticks to make youtiao, which the locals called youcharkwai, meaning ‘deep-fried ghost’. When Xie Lian asked about the origin of the name, uncle Ming explained that it was the common people's way to enact revenge on two perfidious officials who had betrayed a beloved ruler many years ago. To this effect, the two sides of the stick were originally shaped in these officials' likeness, so they could be symbolically crushed and then boiled in oil to pay for their crime. "Some people say that the name of one or both of these officials had the word ghost in them, or at least one that sounded similar, and that's why youcharkwai are called that," uncle Ming added, effortlessly ignoring the consternation in Xie Lian's face. "If you ask me, I think it comes from the fact that this eternal punishment wouldn't allow the officials to rest in peace. Naturally, they'd end up turning into ghosts." Hua Cheng decided that he liked uncle Ming's reasoning the most. He also decided to pretend that the two officials were Feng Xin and Mu Qing, an idea so funny that it gave him all the motivation he needed to work on the honestly absurd amount of sticks they were set to prepare. In fact, he even went through the trouble of vaguely shaping the first fifty or so sticks after the two idiots, just for the pleasure to slice their faces in half with a wet chopstick.

I just finished my rewatch of Gravity Falls. I'm currently sick with a fever and confusion, so that ending kicked extra hard, lol. Regardless, it remains a top tier show. It hasn't aged a day, it's wonderful!

Fun New Year's resolution: enjoy my full gallery of #NintendoSwitch games. I tend to buy indies on discount and play them for like 15 minutes, and there are even AAA Nintendo games that I haven't touched. I think this is more than enough for the whole year. We'll see!
