October reading wrap up from @thestorygraph.com. The past month was pretty random with all kinds of genres. #BookSky #TheStoryGraph

CR: Discontent by Beatriz Serrano. Darkly hilarious character study of a Spanish white collar professional surrounded by vapid asshats in a toxic office environment. #BookSky #ContemporaryFiction

CR: Cows by Matthew Stokoe. I’m going to regret reading this book, aren’t I? #BookSky #Horror #ExtremeHorror #splatterpunk

Ok @ajwhiteauthor.bsky.social you got me fucked up. It takes quite a bit for me to actually reflexively contort my face in horror, but you got me. It’s been a while since a novel had me felt so seen as a neurodivergent person. Thank you so much for this book. #BookSky #Horror #Splatterpunk

Samuel R. Delany’s Hogg is degenerate, stomach-churning depravity. The Marquis de Sade would’ve blushed. Understandably most folks would consider this work artistically unsalvageable, but in proper context of the history of American lit, it’s a work of great importance. #BookSky #ExtremeHorror

CR: You Weren’t Meant to be Human by @ajwhiteauthor.bsky.social. All kinds of splattery goodness thus far. This is a novel that you can smell. (A coworker saw me reading this and asked if it was a self-help book 😂) #BookSky #Horror #QueerHorror #BodyHorror #Splatterpunk #FuckTERFs

A queer, punk, tattooed, cigarette smoking nun in New Orleans solves mysteries. Sharp, witty, staccato prose with a bit of postpunk snark. Lots of quirky characters. Let us pray. #BookSky #SisterHoliday #Mystery

Just finished Katabasis by R.F. Kuang. Kuang impressively weaves a rivals-to-lovers romance and brutal takedown of western academia into a clever retelling of Dante’s Divine Comedy. The philosophy, mathematics, and theology nerd in me was thoroughly impressed. #booksky #Katabasis #RFKuang

CR: My First and Only Love by Sahar Khalifeh. I ordered this a month ago anticipating that I’d have it done by now for a book club happening this Saturday. Welp it only arrived yesterday so I need to finish nearly 400 pages in 3 days. Fun times. #BookSky #LitFic #Palestine

Chubb insurance can't claim to be a "steward of the earth" while insuring methane terminals that hurt people and planet. Chubb: it's match point and the ball is in your court. 🎾 Listen to communities and stop insuring Freeport LNG NOW! #ChubbAtTheOpen #USopen

CR: Grundrisse by Karl Marx. Hilarious that after recently completing Joyce’s Ulysses this feels like a beach read. I’m likely even going to finish this book in less time than it took me to finish my journey through Dublin with Mr. Bloom. #BookSky #Marx #Grundrisse

Finished The Once and Future King by T.H. White. I was assigned this in high school and admittedly did not fully appreciate White’s poignant societal commentaries through his retelling of the Arthurian myth. Considering the current situation of world politics this is a pertinent work. #BookSky

CR: Among Friends by Hal Ebbott. Intrusive thoughts, suspicions, betrayal. Just a nice relaxing autumn getaway in New York country house shared by two very pleasant families. #BookSky #LitFic #BOTM

CR: Moderation by Elaine Castillo. 20 pages in and this is already hitting so close to home for me as a Filipino who grew up in the Bay Area witnessing the rise of the tech industry. Words are not being minced. #BookSky #ElaineCastillo #FilipinoAmericanLit
