there is a live effect layer that's called liquify which sounds more right to what you want from this but also do wish it didn't just. change the interface for it..
being a live effect might make using it weird though if you aren't expecting it

i'm still more of an affinity v2 gal but i did mangle this equation for something similar

it does look simpler but. my coloured tool icons.. :(
they at least looked unique enough to me that i could just click on them but are now monochrome and can't seem to change it, the option is gone
