I don’t doubt it was a strong proposal and is an important project. Unfortunately it does look like you don’t trust the Belizeans to manage the project…. An old school approach to working in the global south ;-)

Why is this led by WWF-Germany? Wouldn’t it be better to empower Belizean organisations? (Or even WWF-Belize…)

Many nationalistic movements (see:Brexit) are unable to comprehend that fish may not actually be “national fish”….

thanks for the quick reply. Appreciated. Looking at your grant list it looks like 78% is going to BINGOs and 22% to national NGOs. I´m aware that the BINGOs have subgrantees, but I believe that national capacity is not created in the long run if they have to sing to the tune of the BINGOs plan.
January 29, 2025 at 1:59 PM
What percentage of your grant giving is focussed on national NGOs who understand local contexts and capacity needs better than the BINGOs?

Congratulations!

I understand. I think the actual article title gives a better summary. The continued budget cuts over here have left many parks inoperable. The article describes this well.

Some new (mostly tiny) protected areas and major budget cuts to all protected areas isn’t great news….
