I remember after the election more than one farmer who proudly proclaimed “Daddy’s Home”. I don’t think they realized they’d have to come to him begging for a bailout at the time. This is a strong wedge to pry at.

The Lincoln Persidential Library and Museum had many important historical facts but one seemed particularly timely given it’s contrast to Trump. Despite being elected during a period of intense national division, Lincoln chose not to surround himself with sycophants to bolster personal support.

Mark Twain wrote in his book “The Mysterious Stranger” that [societal structures] “follow the handful that makes the most noise” and so reminded me that societal decisions and norms are often influenced by a vocal minority rather than the collective will of the people.

Ordered a new book, by PCUSA minister @alexregets.bsky.social. I’m excited to read something from a minister in my own denomination.

Arriving Jan. 7, I’ll try to post again after I read it.

Set in 19th century England, Pride and Prejudice enchants with candid, expressive characters. Elizabeth Bennet’s wit and Mr. Darcy’s integrity, especially his selfless effort to aid her family after Lydia’s elopement, highlight Austen’s mastery of romance and redemption, culminating in a joyous end.

The story follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he faces a ten-year journey to return home after the Trojan War.

I read this probably 7-ish years ago. It’s just fascinating to read something written more than 2500 years ago.

I agree in principle, however I find this idea unlikely.

Holding Trump accountable and defending the rule of law is going to end up a much bigger problem than pardons. He’s already done this before. Verdict: No one gives a damn. Especially the voters.

This book reminded me of a place I had been mentally. I was suffering from the exhaustion of parenthood, managing relationships, and navigating a terrible work place managerial situation. I was depressed but this book helped remember that I could move beyond my overwhelming feelings.

I read this book from the perspective of a father and a son. The greatest dilemma for me was when and whether it was right as a father to let go of your child and let life teach its lessons without guard rails.

I came away with so much from reading about mainline Presbyterian history.
One of my takeaways was that the story of American Presbyterian is closely tied to the state of country broadly.
The second was a little more personal. Specifically, the 19th century history of the new/old school split 1/

Thank god Arwen was able save Frodo from the situation by carrying him to Rivendell on her horse, Asfaloth, and overcoming the Nazgûl at the Ford Bruinen, where Elrond’s magic helped repel the pursuing Ringwraiths making it possible for him to heal Frodo of his drunkenness.

The Republicans are fearlessly grotesque. This guy is going to be a Presidential advisor and publicly addressing the nation like this? I don’t even know what to say.

I donated this book to the church library today. I enjoyed it because of the intellectual depth of the Author.
Side note: He and few other guys have a great podcast where they evaluate and discuss modern issues and Christian perspectives called Mere Orthodoxy.

Pastor McGill recommended this book to me many years ago. I finally read it this year. C.S. Lewis’ ‘Screwtape Letters’ are written from the perspective of a demon plotting humanity’s downfall. While I appreciated the book, I felt tired from nearly constant dark and unsettling tone.

I am a Goggin’s fan. Grit, unrelenting determination, the ability to adapt, change and yet not give up when things don’t go right. He likes a challenge and will cross any physical barrier he can to get there.
If you’re looking for motivation try this book out.
