How strong is that preference for someone local?
It is genuinely hard to tell if some are legitimately ill informed or just parasocially defending their favorite YouTuber.

This is generally my experience as a server at the same restaurant since 2017. Despite inflation increased menu prices, I am making less money than I was in 2022, even with a higher hourly rate. Ppl are both spending less money at my job & tipping less or not tipping at all.

Yeah, and look at the gradual increase of c-suite turnover in the last few years. Increasingly corporations don’t value holding onto ppl long term, and most exes seem to favor short term growth that they can point to so they can land another gig at a different company.

Tipping is an exploitative practice that we should end, but these ppl are cringe as fuck. Their anger almost always seems to be directed at their server and not the system itself. No one gives a shit if you don’t tip at a cafe, and you’re not dismantling the tipping system by stiffing your server.

Yeah I do chuckle when people talk specifically hbomberguy falling off when the last 4 or 5 videos he put out got more views than some video essay channels get in an entire year.
He may not have posted in a year but the next video will easily get 20+ million views

That last part is on the money for me. I love the souls games, but I am very disinterested in the whole “Dark Souls lore explained” genre. Not knocking it for those that enjoy, but the possibilities are way more interesting to me than the facts.

fwiw tho I did have the same thought you had about how ppl would likely view some of Ethan’s actions as justified if they agreed with him politically. I also think the impulse to be a little icked out by a YouTube drama video about ppl who were actually friends is how ppl should probably react lol.

I don’t know man. I was an avid h3 pod watcher for a couple years. Ethan has always had tons of haters and friends who fell out w/ him. I’m not convinced the Ethan of a few years ago would stoop down to suing a random redditor. Of course I don’t know him, so could be wrong.

For better or worse, YouTube politics has always sort of been like this. Early breadtube was deconstructing right wing talking points via what was more or less YouTube drama with alt-right creators. It’s icky, but if it keeps people from going down the alt right rabbit hole it’s a good thing

Yeah it is surreal, but I’m not sure if we need idubbz giving us an in depth analysis of Israel’s genocide. a video meeting H3 on his level will likely do more harm mitigation than a more formal analysis. If it keeps people from listening to h3’s hasbara, I count it as a win.

compare Yuval Abraham’s speech to Adrian Brodie’s. Abraham calls out specific material conditions (US support of Israel’s genocide), Brodie just makes vague platitudes that are inoffensive and only serve as self aggrandizement. Abraham wants material change, Brodie wanted to make a good speech.

I agree that more ppl should see movies in theaters, but the answer to that problem is improving material conditions. We didn’t get to this place because of some societal psychosis that made everyone want to stop going to the theater.

I also think James is so terminally offline that he’ll never notice the red flags surrounding the event. & it’s in his best interest to remain ignorant of it bc it keeps him from acknowledging that he should probably dump screenwave.

Yeah this is tricky. I get that James may feel like he owes something to Craig, but all you gotta do is glance at that guy’s channel and anyone with some common sense would know it’s a bad idea to collaborate with him.
