Creekside Critter!!!! I don't normally visit Creekside until evening...but I was working this morning in The South Forty and espied movement near the bank. (Bonus: There's a sibling!! [Other than odor in the air, there's no sign yet of Mom.] More pics later!)

One of the catbirds was out tonight. They're great imitators.
It was making a different sound as it chirped.
I listened, trying hard to make out its new call.

I could swear it was chirping, "No kings! No kings!"
(Pic is just for fun; this is NOT a catbird.)

At deep dusk, a 4ft side-striped snake moved cross-current, atop the water near the far bank.
So MAYBE it was a line of baby ducklings following their mother?
Research says it ALSO could have been a milksnake.

“I’ll go with ‘ducks’,” I said, whistling in the dark...

Creekside’s show starts around 8.
I come early & wait, hoping the deer won’t see me as they pass.
Sometimes they halt & issue a horse-like chuffing, revealing they’re aware of me.
And if I’m late & they’re already creekside, I quietly back away..
It is, after all, their home, too.

I wonder if there are deer who gather across the creek each dusk, to see if the humans will show up tonight...?

Those who work for churches, this a great shirt to wear to human rights events.

This evening, a lone Mallard made a landing in the water.
He quacked as he swam, trying to attract a lady...but there were none at tonight’s Creekside disco.

Guess he'll have to pull his own beak tonight...

One does not simply “watch the woods.”
One must sit silently. And wait.

The life within that dense and mysterious, mossy green curtain will slowly reveal itself to you.

What's cuter than a big dog carrying her own tiny umbrella?

OK, it was MY umbrella...but she INSISTED on carrying it for me on our walk.

This old dog continues to amaze.

"We’re all gonna die in horrible ways, Nowhere to run, nowhere to play. So pass me the bottle, it’s time for some thrills. So come on and pill me, those bastards might kill me,
But I prob’ly will."

I've not written any songs for a long time...but this maladministration has inspired me. I'm developing a new lifestyle/music genre--The Goth Folk Hedonistic Nihilism Project. If you like it, please share!

I know there are more important things happening...but I wonder if we're still doing DST (March 8-9)? Either way, here's a dumb parody song about it that I wrote (apologies to Bob Dylan), back in the days of analog time-keeping: www.dianatyler.com/songs/TimeIt...

Sunset...
and fairy lights in the trees...
Nearby--
but hidden in the woods--
two owls 'who-who-whoo'ted to one another...
I stood...
freezing...
yet amazed...
