Oh, wow. I didn’t realize just how few words of storage drum memory held. Were the 1024 of fast-access memory wire-wrapped cores or was the “CRT” something more exotic?

Also, why a 45-bit word size (if I read that correctly)? My first guess is something to do with binary coded decimal?

Heh - I just have an interest in the details from listening to my dad and granddad reminisce about the different mainframes they used to use. My only experience with an ASR 33 when I was younger was being delighted with its use as the percussion section in “TWX in 12 Bars”. 😅

I’m curious to ask: were the paper tapes all pretty standardized on 5-bit Baudot code, or were there different encoding schemes/tape widths?

As someone who only discovered you about eighteen months ago but then devoured your back catalog, I’m gutted to hear it. I can only imagine what both you and he are going through, and for whatever it’s worth you have my deepest sympathies.
