One major challenge: data harmonization. Adjustments to domestic economic data (e.g., national input-output tables) are often required, which can be a concern for statistical agencies aiming to maintain consistency with official accounts.

1/ 🌍 How do we calculate carbon footprints for entire economies?
Environmentally Extended Multi-Regional Input-Output (EE-MRIO) models are the key tool for consumption-based accounts. They trace emissions across global supply chains, giving a full picture of environmental impacts.
