Pleased to see our perspective on the C3 model of photosynthesis published. It was fun revisiting the science behind it.

Just came across this paper "Dual-cycle CO2 fixation enhances growth and lipid synthesis..."
www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Dual-cycle CO2 fixation enhances growth and lipid synthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana
Carbon fixation through the Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB) cycle accounts for the majority of carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake from the atmosphere. The CBB cycle generates C3 carbohydrates but is inefficient ...

Herewith I'd share a paper that reports a synthesis of old data from 8-yr's canopy gas exchange measurements on wheat in response to heat and drought (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...).
Canopy Carbon‐ and Water‐Use Efficiencies in Response to Temperature and Water Deficit for Wheat
A synthesis analysis of multi-year canopy gas-exchange experiments in wheat revealed that carbon use efficiency was variable, and temperature response of water use efficiency (WUE) was dominated by t...

Good to see this nice Reflection of the vC&F paper! It starts with "Modern gas exchange is often attributed to the work of Gaastra (1959) who made first measurements...". But that 1959 paper was missing in the ref list. For those who like to read it, here is the link: library.wur.nl/WebQuery/wur...

Need a complicated model to predict dynamic photosynthesis in response to elevated CO2 and temperature? Evidence from measuring T-FACE grown rice plants suggests that the answer is "No" if we just predict cumulative CO2 assimilated during lightfleck(s). @jxbotany.bsky.social

Just came across an interesting study on the photosynthetic plasticity in a plant that exhibits C3-like traits underwater and C4-like traits on land.

Genomic and Cis‐Regulatory Basis of a Plastic C3‐C4 Photosynthesis in Eleocharis Baldwinii
The sedge Eleocharis baldwinii remarkably switches between C3-like and C4-like photosynthesis in response to environmental conditions. Combining gap-free genome assembly with single-cell multi-omics,...

How to improve(maintain) crop yields under future climate? Lowering reproductive-tissue temperature is key - insights

Panicle temperature explains contrasting yield responses of rice genotypes to elevated CO2 and increased temperature in T-FACE environments
A T-FACE study revealed early-morning flowering and enhanced panicle nitrogen content are promising traits for breeding climate-resilient rice genotypes ca
