Breakfast! A buttermilk country-fried steak, and eggs Benedict, both with cheddar and bacon grits. A cute little papercraft Citroën H van as a mobile coffee shop. Clover in her new overalls quickly adjusting her suspension on our way to the Dee Wright observatory. A silver Miata does some enthusiastic driving.

Spent the weekend in/around Bend, OR with @downhillcarver.bsky.social! Did some fun drives, stayed at a very cool hostel (Bunk+Brew Historic Lucas House), had some tasty food, met up with friends, went clothes shopping, and got some good photos of it all!

Pressure cooker chile verde for a get-together with friends tomorrow! Pot is basically full of various peppers and a couple onions.

Was "only" about 97 °F today in temperate Portland, but the LLV—the quintessential mail truck—has neither air conditioning nor insulation. It is a superb delivery vehicle, and functions equally well as a toaster oven. Temps inside, even with windows and vents open, will exceed outside temps by 20°.

Bonus bug friend, a yellow-spotted millipede.
A yellow-spotted millipede crawling along the rocky/gravelly trail path, it's shiny black carapace reflecting the blue sky, and vibrant yellow spots, standing out like a sore thumb against the dull brown dirt and rocks.

Was invited to hike Dog Mountain near Stevenson, WA by some coworkers. Didn't think I'd make it all the way to the summit, but with a helpful push I was able to finally make it up! Only 3 miles (6 total), but 2,800 ft elevation gain according to Maps for an average grade of 18%! Quite grueling.

Age and weather gives the concrete plenty of texture. Looking up at the suspension structure of a pedestrian bridge. Turnbuckled cables and two main support structures spanning the length of the bridge make for a symmetrical view. Dense feens, moss, and trees envelope a couple as they walk down a dirt path into the valley of a heavily wooded area in the hills above the city.

Went downtown a couple weeks ago for some casual photography. Wasn't super feeling it initially, but glad I went out after all; haven't gone out for photos in a looong while and it felt good to stretch those muscles. So thanks to @downhillcarver.bsky.social for getting me out.

Another excellent commission from the ever-talented @batshaped.bsky.social! Again of my corgi Sonja. She's about done being nice with this stuck bolt and that big-ass breaker bar will be her last attempt at diplomacy before she busts out the blowtorch.

Nearly got into an accident today. If you literally cut corners, I sincerely plead that you think about how your actions might affect other people. You aren't driving on the road all by yourself. I see this with infuriating regularity.

Tensioner pulley exploded on my way home today. Was lucky enough to stop near an auto parts store and have my tools with me, so got it sorted in about a half-hour.
Popped the hood and this is how I found the accessory belt. Was expecting the belt to be snapped, but it came out whole. Ah, there's the problem. Bearing overheated and melted the plastic pulley until it came apart in pieces.

22° halo with (very faint) sun dogs and an upper tangent arc I seen't the other day! This is when I learned sun dogs, when the sun is at a relatively high angle, do not align with the halo. Never knew that!
