ah, that's unfortunate. :( all this new legislation requiring IDs is going to result in a massive, damaging data breach scandal one day 🫠

That being said, I'm also not sure it will be effective since the client is a web app and they might be able to push updates or force you to update with some kind of dialog box if they really really wanted to.

I know it works for sure on Linux but I don't see why it wouldn't on Windows as well.

I've had to do this a few times to make Discord play nicely with package managers like pacman to ensure that they're handling my Discord updates rather than the client itself (which tends not to work on Arch).

The only way I'm aware of to prevent Discord from auto-updating or pestering you to update when it starts is to change the settings.json file in .config/discord/ if you're on Linux (or %APPDATA%/Roaming/discord on Windows)

Append it with "SKIP_HOST_UPDATE": true before the final brace.

I still do discuss some political stuff with friends, but a very very select few. When one of the two political parties believes in loyalty to the Orange Man and works with a highly distorted sense of reality, it's almost impossible to debate them. It's exhausting so I just avoid it.

Oh to live in a country/region where earnest political debate (free of thinly veiled ad hominem attacks or racism/dishonesty/deceit) among everyday people is not seen as a sign of weakness 😭

The political climate in US is gonna get a lot worse before things get better, I fear.

I definitely agree with that - I meant in terms of "US centric 2-party-system political stances", but yeah. Politics in the US, personally, and even globally is far more complicated and nuanced than two diametrically opposed points of view.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but more that it's an unknown and potentially unlikely (to me at least).

He's not very politically vocal on his platform.

What specifically did he say or indicate that 'tagged him as republican'?

I find it hard to believe w/o direct evidence that someone w/ Steve's level of integrity and focus on consumer rights would support with gutting funding from agencies like the CPSC and FTC (an idea that Republicans support)
