the test swatches were a success at least! no shrinkage! the one on the left was done with boiling water to activate the dye (at great risk to the wool) while the right was done with hot tap water (about 95F, safer for wool)
i want that Color Treated look so i’m very happy with the right swatch 😎

samfro update! i hunted down antique blankets of the wool they used for the cloaks a while back. today i will be attempting The World’s Scariest Dye Bath on them. will they shrink? god i hope not. these are antiques.
