Hazbin Hotel (Season 2)
TV

Huge pacing issues & rushed storylines. But it’s strength is in it’s musical numbers & talented cast, who seem to genuinely love the show, which shines through. Christian Borle is spectacular this season. I don’t even care that they gave him a billion songs give him more

Hazbin Hotel: Live on Broadway
Stage Show (watched online)

Hazbin’s strength is in it’s musical numbers (more on that when I finish S2) so a singalong was a natural choice for a live show! I loved how much they showcased the cosplayers in the crowd, you can tell that they truly love their fans.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Film

The first new Marvel thing I’ve watched all year and I liked it! Great costuming, they blended 60s era-appropriate suiting with fun & campy design, and it worked well. I also adore a good retrofuturism aesthetic. Also Pedro Pascal was in it so immediate smash

Over the Garden Wall
TV

So beautiful! And so much depth for such a short series. I loved how it explored darker themes but still kept a light and whimsical atmosphere. It has this beautiful muted, autumnal colour palette that reminded me of watercolour paintings.

Stellar Firma Live
Stage Show

So deeply chaotic. My face was hurting from laughing. The Meredith bros kept clambering on and off the stage and somehow made it funny every time. The crowd had a really good energy, too! I’m sad we couldn’t stay for the meet & great because I would’ve loved to say hi.

Frankenstein: The Anatomy Lesson
Documentary

Really interesting deep dive into how Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein was made. He’s present at every step of the production process which is great to see, but also knows when to step back and allow his team to work their magic.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (rewatch)
Film

Just soooooo excellent my god. I feel like every time I watch these films I notice something new.

The ‘What’s Up Danger’ scene is still my absolute fave

Pans Labyrinth (rewatch)

Stunning. Stunning and heartbreaking. That’s really where Guillermo del Toro does his best work, isn’t it

Transformation (reread)
Book (3 Short Stories)

Read this on the train before lending it to my friend Vesper. The first & last stories are compelling, but the 2nd one is a little dull to me. What can I say, I like it when Shelley writes about monsters and scientific hubris.

Frankenstein (rewatch)
Film

Even better the second time around. Noting the use of colour, grading choices, continuous shots & musical motifs… and continuing to be abnormal about the costuming. Also, the bathtub scene.

Sweeney Todd (rewatch)
Film

I love this film but Johnny Depp’s singing is so bad… go watch literally any other version of Sweeney Todd singing My Friends, you will be blown away. 2026 might be the year of me cosplaying freaky Victorian men

Repo! The Genetic Opera (rewatch)

This is absolutely the worst film I’ve ever seen, but Zydrate Anatomy is still an absolute banger

Magnus Live: The Hilltop
Stage Show

I was very lucky to attend the premiere night for this show! Very interesting character studies of Archives & Protocol characters. Shahan Hamza’s acting was incredible. I was disappointed with how the audience acted at times but it didn’t affect the show itself.

Frankenstein (reread)
Book

My favourite novel, which I re-read to celebrate the new film. I had a really fun time noting the differences between the book and the film, and also noticing how many themes were still carried over into it too.

Black Swan (rewatch)
Film

One of my favourite films! The scene where Nina dances Odile’s Coda and completes the metamorphosis into the Black Swan still gives me chills. And the ending…

Frankenstein
Film

Despite many changes from the original novel, Guillermo del Toro fully understands Shelley’s work. It’s simultaneously a very different take on the story while also an expertly done adaptation. Beautiful and grotesque.

Interstellar (rewatch)
Film

I totally forgot to add this when we watched it last week, right after the other film where Matt Damon gets rescued from a planet. This is great and I love how 2001 it feels in places. I should rewatch that one sometime soon too

Lisa Frankenstein
Film

If it wasn’t obvious, I really enjoy absurdist humour and pasty Victorian men. I love how colourful & fun this was, with a name like LISA FRANKenstein that was an absolute must. They made this film for hopeless romantics who are also freaks!!!

Smoochies
Album

So chaotic and absurd and aggressively horny. Random genre switches and INSANE lyrics lmaoooo

So there’s all these hypersexual delirious fun songs and then I got an absolute gut punch at the end with It Girl, my god. I don’t even have anyone to talk to about this

Star Trek: First Contact (rewatch)
Film

I get nervous when I show this film to people I like because if they think it’s bad I get weird. Hey does anyone else get too connected to a piece of media. This one tackles PTSD, transhumanism, destiny & the borg queen’s 15-step korean skincare routine

Star Trek: Generations (rewatch)
Film

Patrick Stewart portrays grief and the burden of duty in a complex & layered way. Data’s arc, becoming overwhelmed & struggling to function with his emotions going haywire, always reaches me as someone who is deeply connected to him as a character.

Deadpool & Deadpool 2 (rewatch)
Film(s)

My opinion on Deadpool is a little tainted by Deadpool cosplayers and their notoriety in being annoying little shits. These are fun films to just have on in the background, though. Was ‘hashtag driveby’ funny in 2016 I don’t recall
