The postmodernists who hate truth radically undermine divine Logos spawning from their shortage of serotonin, so I took Jung to my house and I freaked it.
Planted this young tree in our backyard last Friday. Crimson Sentry maple.

This same ad pops up in my twatter feed regularly. I keep blocking it, but it shows up again. These 2 instances appeared with less than 5 min between them. "I solved the bot poblem" my ass. You are the problem. You're a disease that unfortunately has to run its course.

Finally in the shop. Leg tenons are flush cut, so the surface is ready. Next steps would be making a two-sided insert to fill the top split, a leg vise, drill a row of holes for bench dogs and come up with some cover for the drawer, otherwise it's gonna collect sawdust and shavings. TBC

Almost done. I decided to add a drawer. Extra storage capacity is always nice, especially for small workshops.

The bench became useful even before the full assembly. Also I decided to add heavy duty caster wheels. That helped quite a lot later on.

Here's my first attempt to cut a mortise for future leg tenons. Somehow I didn't mess it up.

Let's goooo. Next episode about building my bench. After plaining and laminating the stock it was time to glue together the leg blanks and stretchers.

I made the leg blanks with a similar approach - laminating together thinner strips. But this time I decided to practice with my hand plane, so with plywood I added some pine wood. In hindsight - I should have sharpened the plane's iron before taking this vid.

And the process itself.

This is the amount of sawdust generated.

Unfortunately I slightly messed up the glue up and ended with uneven surfaces. I needed to fix that. So I put together this odd contraption. The router is floating on a sled and steel beams, grinding off all bumps.

And this is the stacking of strips into a block. I made two of those. Two half tabletops.
November 27, 2024 at 5:46 PM
I started with cutting a sheet of plywood into strips. This stack was the future tabletop.
