Coffee in hand, at the gate before boarding. They’re making everyone in economy check on suitcases because the flight is fully booked…. Maybe stop charging for luggage and not everyone would fly carry-on only 😑

If you say the words ‘the Downtown Eastside’ to a Canadian they know what I’m talking about. It’s like skid row, synonymous with drug use and homelessness. And I just think we could be doing so much better as a society. There is so much wealth in this city yet so many ppl are struggling.

Anyways I dunno I really like their house and the neighbourhood in the other direction of that street seems nice but it’s kind of a culture shock for me. We don’t really have people strung out on fentanyl in the streets in NL. I guess I’m a pampered European now.

And it’s a chicken and egg type thing. Drug users congregate on this street because all the services geared towards them are centered here. Safe injection site, supported housing, shelters, charities etc. But by centering everything on one street you create this huge mass of ppl all in one area

And by watched I mean I heard the sirens come really close and stop so I checked to see what was going on, I didn’t sit there and watch it like a weirdo. But still it’s really sad to see how people have been let down and left to fend for themselves on the streets.

And I was talking about it with her today and it’s so hard to know what to do or how to react when you are seeing people passed out from drugs EVERY DAY. I watched paramedics revive someone who was overdosing yesterday, on the grass across from their house.
