It’s not for everyone, it’s truly depressing and some parts made me physically nauseous. But it doesn’t come with this typical intent to scare off the reader or shock them. It makes sense when you read about her life but tws all around.

Stone Butch Blues blew me away. I avoided it because I had this sense of awe about it. When I read a great classic I get this excitement like I’m visiting a cathedral, a mountain peak. This is what reading her work felt like. I wish I’d read it when I first saw it as a teenager
