Just remember. They want us grief stricken, demoralized, and destabilized.

Stay well, stay grounded. Tag out when you need to restore yourself. The resistance will need to be sustainable.

Real bravery from the kids who are too often our cultural punching bags.

@xankarn That's a great approach to explain what's happening now. Capitalism is present there again as anti-communism. Good to get this long durée process in sight.

Kathleen Belew, author of Bring the War Home, will give a public lecture at our uni this fall.

People who want to understand the current moment (and its history) should be reading her.

@xankarn Yes, the creation of a lawless warrior class happend abroad, now they get deployed at home. That historically a usual problem for warfaring societies. How to deal with the veterans? Give them land (Roman Republic), recruit them for parties (NSDAP) or deploy them internally?

We could use more reporting here. No doubt, in my mind anyway, that many of these goons have done stints in private security in other theaters (Afghanistan, Iraq).

We were already going down this road with drone warfare after 9/11.

Lethal combat missions on shift. Home for dinner with the fam after.

The masks are crucial here, too. They allow these agents to slip between the military and civilians worlds as they wish.

State terror but with civilian permeability. War, but also not war.

Also personal cell phones with facial recognition apps but no body cams. Running the most invasive surveillance op in the nation’s history through commercial broadband and cell towers.

It’s nuts.

@xankarn Thank you. We can’t prosecute every ICE employee, prison camps are never the answer. Restorative justice is a good approach
